The raw water enters an open intake system located about 1,800 m offshore.
The intake system is connected to the plant via a 1,600-mm diameter pipeline. The length of the brine outfall is 380 m, and its diameter is 1,200 mm.
The desalination project is a key part of the South Australian government’s Water Proofing Adelaide Strategy. It will provide Adelaide with half of its annual water usage and is powered by sustainable energy sources.
The desalination plant in Tampa Bay (Florida) is the largest facility of its kind in the United States.
